01/09/2005-
Fall River, Massachusetts
Week number 1 of the
2005 Catholic Youth Futsal season is now over but not before a
great weekend of games and fun. League volunteers were on
hand to assist in last minute registration needs for teams,
coaching and supervising.
Visitors poured into the bleachers of the Lafrance Gymnasium at
Bishop Connolly High School to watch
games from 12 noon to 8 PM with
participants ranging in age from 4
to 14. Games ran the full
spectrum of talent, from novice
youth players on up to
All Star talent that we hope will
represent our area Catholic Youth in
the upcoming Massachusetts State Cup
Championships held in Norfolk
Massachusetts on January 22nd and
23rd.
By every measure this
first weekend of games was another HUGE success. From
the strong number of participants, smooth registration
process, quality of play, officiating and facilities, the league
is allowing the opportunity for many of our
area children to get out and
participate in a healthy, fun and
wholesome activity.

St.
Stanislaus U10 team, playing in their 2nd match of
the season with a back to back double pulled off
another win. This time they defeated the

large scoring difference, Notre Dame put on several
unsuccessful scoring attacks.

pair of goals but not before falling short to the
St. Michael's U12 team who won this contest with a
final score of 4-3.

lit up the scoreboard in this match

Game #7
St.

Notre Dame U14 team who entered the contest short a
few players. Without the depth to their bench Notre
Dame tired and fell short with a final score of 8-1.
Scoring for St. Stanislaus came from many players
but none was more exciting than the penalty kick
rocketed by Marcia Rzasa.
Game #8
Holy
Name's U14 Girls stepped onto the court with Coach
Maxi Carey and won the final game of the day over
Notre Dame but only by the narrowest of margins,
4-3. Both teams put in great efforts with
Sarah Carey leading the way for Holy Name with 2
goals.
This week's games marked the opening day of our 2nd
year of futsal games being held at Bishop Connolly
High School. Our number of participants is
stronger than it was at this time last year with
many new players participating from Holy Name, Holy
Trinity, Notre Dame, St. Anne's, Ss. Peter & Paul,
St. Michael's and St. Stanislaus. The
program is definitely growing and the children
absolutely enjoy the game!
