John P. Kinnane, President of the Kinnane Group, Inc. announces the sale of the former Dominican Academy on South Main Street in Fall River, Massachusetts.  The property is adjacent to St. Anne's Shrine, near St. Anne's Hospital, and across from John F. Kennedy Park in Fall River, MA.  This multi-level building housed the Dominican Sisters of Hope School, Infirmary and Convent for many years and is well located in the city's south end. 

The 67,000 sq.ft. building was purchased by the Atlantis Educational Foundation and shall continue its use as a school for the Atlantis Charter School, one of the Commonwealth's largest and most successful charter schools.  Sr. Philomena McCartney of the Dominican Sisters of Hope recognized this transaction as a Bitter-Sweet occasion for the Dominican Sisters of Hope.  In one hand it is sad to close a facility that has served to help the Sisters in their ministries and which has been a long standing cornerstone in the community it served,  but it is also seen as a blessing to know that an educational institution as fine as the Atlantis Charter School would find the facilities suitable for their ambitious endeavors in educating the youth of Fall River.

Fernando Goulart of the Atlantis Charter School was overjoyed to have the opportunity to purchase the facility.  He has been involved in an active search process for a permanent location for several years now and was quite surprised to discover how well the Dominican Sisters of Hope had taken care of their property at Park and South Main Streets.
