Norfolk, Massachusetts
Week number 1 of the
2004-2005 Norfolk County Futsal season is over but not before a
great weekend of games and fun. League volunteers were on
hand to assist in last minute registration needs for teams,
coaches and parents.
Visitors enjoyed watching 1st time players participating in new
U10 teams as well as hotly contested matches by national
champions. Our games ran the full spectrum of talent, from
novice youth players from the New England Futsal Academy on up to
legitimate national championship contenders in the Boys U14, Girls
U16 and Mens Open brackets.
By every measure this past weekend was a HUGE success. From
the strong number of participating teams, smooth registration
process, quality of play, officiating and facilities, this weekend
opened the opportunity for many of our state's top soccer and
futsal players who are participating in this United States Futsal
Federation sanctioned league to begin their pursuit for a National
Title for 2005.
Session two online registrations have flourished since this past
weekend as have the online registrations for the 2005
Massachusetts State Cup which the Norfolk County Futsal League
shall host in January 2005. "I suspect that people wanted to
see if we could pull this all together", say John Kinnane, League
Adminstrator. "We did it and I think people were very
impressed".
Jim
Gwozdz of the Taunton Eagles commented on Tuesday
that, "week no.1 was a lot of fun for the boys and it
looked as though the league is off to a very good
start. Keep up the great work".
League Director, Bill
Sampaio was very happy with both the turnout and the quality of
play. "IT WAS FANTASTIC!, we watched over 50 teams take to
our courts from around the state competing this past Saturday and
Sunday at the wonderful Forekicks athletic facility".
"The Hill topper Girls from Fall River played against the two-time
National Champion Shooting Stars of Natick. The Hill toppers
opened the score but the Shooting Stars, after a slow start,
controlled the game and at the end of the day, the Hill toppers
were defeated 4 - 2.
"The Colombia PRIDE from Framingham put on a classy display of
technique and finesse as they downed the very strong Latino Stars
squad from Marlboro by the same score."
The Norfolk County Futsal League is
run under the direction of Bill Sampaio
and is sanctioned by the United States Futsal
Federation which is
the national governing authority that
oversees all Futsal league
development, policies and competitions
throughout the United States under the
auspices of the United States Youth
Soccer Association and FIFA.
Our league will host the the 2005
Massachusetts State Cup, qualifying
teams for the 2005 USFF Regional
Tournament and the 2005 USFF National
Championships.
